St. Mary Magdalene, Bolney

■ Confirmation

is a stage of the Christian journey, part of your pilgimage of faith in Jesus Christ which is preceeded with Holy Baptism.

When you are confirmed, you have the opportunity to affirm those promises which you made at your Holy Baptism, or which were made on your behalf.

God confirms our membership of his Church by sending his Holy Spirit into our hearts and sealing us with its presence.

The Bishop presides at Confirmation services and they are usually shared with other local churches.

During the service -

  • The Bishop will encourage those to be confirmed and ask them to renew the vows which were made when they were baptized
  • He will pray for them that they will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit in their lives
  • He will lay his hands on the head of each person with the words -
"Confirm O Lord, your servant, with your Holy Spirit”
  • He will anoint each candidate with the sacred Oil of Chrism
